Thresholding - An Initiatory Experience
We used to ‘know’ our belonging in our bones. As a culture we have grown away from intimacy with the more-than-human world, yet it waits for us. An initiatory journey is an invitation to remember what we most deeply belong to, what we have always belonged to.
Thresholds have always existed: moments of no longer and not yet. Across time and culture, people have stepped into wilder places to meet themselves anew, to seek clarity, mark transitions, and remember what truly matters.
This October, as the season leans toward Samhain, a traditional threshold of the year, we invite you into a four-day immersion: an experience shaped by ceremony, community, and the land.
This is not training. This is a lived experience. A crossing. A remembering.
A place to return to what you most deeply belong to — and always have.
The Invitation
Throughout human history, individuals have sought out nature as a mirror — to listen for the movement of the soul, to stand at the edge of their known life, and to step into something larger. These moments were held as sacred, and often marked through rites of passage: guided journeys through preparation, threshold, and return.
This experience will follow that arc, held by experienced wilderness guide Rupert Marques and nature-based facilitator Amy Clarkson, drawing on the four-directions eco-centric wheel of development (Bill Plotkin) and practices from the School of Lost Borders.
Together, we will enter a liminal space in the woodlands of Pollok Country Park, allowing the land to lead. Through solo time, ceremony, and shared reflection, we will tend to what is ending and what is emerging in our lives.
This work is especially potent for:
Those standing at a personal or professional threshold
Nature-based practitioners seeking to deepen their own initiatory experience
Anyone called to honour transition in a way that is embodied, soulful, and real
The Shape of the Days
Monday – Arrival & Orientation to the ceremony
Landing, exploring the eco-centric wheel, and creating the ceremonial container.
Tuesday – Preparation: Working with ‘Intention’
Exploring the deeper meaning of threshold crossing and initiation and intention-setting for the threshold day.
Wednesday – Threshold: Dawn-to-Dusk Solo
A day-long solo on the land, held in deep care.
Thursday – Integration: Catching the story and Mirroring for Empowerment
Story-sharing, witnessing, and weaving insights into life.
We’ll share lunch, conversation, and presence. The rhythm of the week will be gentle and spacious, guided by the land’s own pace.
This Is Only the Beginning
We see this gathering as the seed of something larger — a growing community of practice in Scotland for rites of passage work, rooted in urban wilds and local connection. If there’s enough interest, this may evolve into a year-long offering, including a traditional four-day/four-night solo.
