The Den

Outdoor learning for ages 5-8

A playful space for building dens, confidence, and friendships — all at your child’s pace.

We meet weekly in local woodland for child-led outdoor play. This group is perfect for kids who love to explore or need a gentle entry into group life. We prioritise consent, autonomy and joy.

  • Yes. The Den is designed to gently introduce children to forest school through familiar routines, supportive adults, and plenty of time to settle in. Children are never rushed to join in and are encouraged to explore the space at their own pace.

  • Sessions begin with relaxed free play, giving children time to arrive, explore, and feel comfortable before structured activities begin. Staff are attentive and supportive, helping children ease into the day in a calm and reassuring way.

  • Days follow a reassuring rhythm that balances routine with flexibility. Children arrive for free play, gather for a morning circle, enjoy child-led exploration and activities throughout the day, share food together, and end with a closing circle to reflect and reconnect.

  • Sessions are led by qualified Forest and Outdoor Learning Leaders, supported by assistants and trained volunteers, maintaining high adult-to-child ratios to ensure children feel safe, seen, and supported.

  • Children should wear weather-appropriate outdoor clothing in layers, including waterproofs and sturdy shoes or boots. Hats, gloves, and extra layers are recommended in winter, and sun protection in summer.

Children should bring a packed lunch (no nuts), snacks, and a water bottle. Being prepared for all weather helps them fully enjoy their day.

  • The Den runs in block bookings, which helps children build familiarity, confidence, and a sense of belonging within the group. All sessions are booked and paid for in advance through our online booking system.

Places are limited to maintain safe adult-to-child ratios.

Refunds are only given if a session is cancelled by We Are Wonder and cannot be rescheduled.

No refunds are available for missed sessions due to personal circumstances.
