Nature Explorers

Monthly adventures run by parent volunteers.

Nature Explorers is a monthly outdoor adventure group for 8–16 y/os who are happy to head out independently, without a parent or carer by their side.

Each month, the group meets in a different outdoor location for a shared adventure - spending time moving, exploring and being together outdoors, supported by a small team of familiar adults.

Our Intentions

  • We intend to offer a space where children can enjoy nature and physical activity together in a variety of wild outdoor environments.

  • We aim to contribute to needs for adventure, freedom, exploration, companionship, belonging, fun and others.

  • We wish to build fitness, resilience, skill and a deep sense of connection with nature for all involved.

We offer this as a contribution to the We Are Wonder CIC and to build community by building relationships between the children and with the adults involved.

  • Activities include walks in nature, cycling, outdoor play and in fairer weather paddling and exploring rivers and beaches.

    In the past we have walked up Ben A'an, explored the shores of Loch Ard, cycled between Paisley and Lochwinnoch, performed nature rituals around and in Loch Drunkie, played in the snow in a Glasgow park and helped out by removing tree guards and planting wild flower seeds at Howietoun nature reserve. 

  • Either children are dropped off at our home and/or we do a Glasgow Southside pick up and travel (often by car, sometimes train) to a wild place, usually within 1.5 hours from Glasgow.

    The day trips are usually between 10am and 5pm during the weekend. We are considering doing an overnight wild camping trip when the group of children are ready.

  • We ask for a donation to contribute towards the costs of outdoor first aid training, kit etc.

    All donations go to We Are Wonder CIC.

    Suggested donation of £10 per child each outing.

  • Clothes suitable for the planned trip, in Scotland this usually means be prepared for all weather: i.e. bring layers of clothes and waterproofs, hat and gloves. Also bring spare clothes in a separate bag. Water bottle for the day, packed lunch and some snacks.

    Suitable rucksack to fit everything in (apart from spare clothes bag).

    Anything else is provided or will be communicated beforehand.
